As your DAV Department of Louisiana, it’s our mission to guide Louisiana veterans and their families through the benefits and protections available to them—especially those from the VA life insurance programs. Planning for the future might feel daunting, but having the right information makes all the difference. Here’s what you need to know, along with personalized advice for our local community.

Why VA Life Insurance?

VA life insurance represents a powerful safety net—designed to support veterans, their spouses, and dependent children. If you have service-connected disabilities or want to ensure peace of mind for your loved ones, now is the time to understand your options. The programs guarantee eligibility, offer simple online applications, and let you update coverage whenever your circumstances change.

Explore Your VA Life Insurance Choices

  • VALife: Whole life insurance for service-connected veterans, with guaranteed acceptance up to age 80. No medical questions asked, and coverage ranges up to $40,000 in $10,000 increments.

  • SGLI & FSGLI: Group life insurance for active service members and their families, with up to $500,000 (members) and $100,000 (spouses) coverage. Dependent children included at no cost.

  • VGLI: Allows you to convert your SGLI when separating from service into renewable group coverage, staying protected long after your military career.

  • VMLI: For qualifying veterans with severe service-connected disabilities who received a VA housing grant. This coverage pays your mortgage lender directly—up to $200,000.
